Pizza Fondue

Yes, that’s right… Pizza Fondue. This recipe I came upon by chance – when I read it, I thought it could be either really good or really gross, but it turned out to be one of my most favourite fondues! Perfect dipped with fresh warm bread… I like to get the take-and-bake multigrain loaves from the supermarket and cut into big pieces for dipping! It’s great for company and makes fantastic conversation food… who doesn’t like sitting around the fondue pot and talking about life’s adventures?

Ingredients:

1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup finely chopped onion (I stick about a half an onion in the food processer and buzz until chopped)
1 tsp cooking oil
1-14 oz can of pizza sauce
Pepper (to taste)
1/2 tsp dried whole oregano
1/2 tsp dried sweet basil
2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated medium cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (I’m not a parmesan cheese lover, so I usually skip this and substitute with extra cheddar)

Fry ground beef and onion in cooking oil in a large saucepan until beef is no longer pink. Drain. (If I’m having company over for fondue, I do this earlier in the day, or the night before and then just warm it in the pan before the next step). Add the remaining ingredients. Heat and stir until cheese is melted. Pour into fondue pot and place over low heat.

Use bread for dipping! It’s so hard to resist this one 🙂
